Why a VIN check matters when buying a car in the UAE
A large share of used cars sold in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah were imported from the US, Canada, Europe or Japan, and many were sold at insurance auctions after an accident. A listing rarely tells you that. The 17-character VIN (the chassis number on your Mulkiya) is the key that links the car to those records.
- Spot cars that were sold as salvage, rebuilt or flood-damaged abroad
- See auction photos and damage descriptions where a car passed through Copart or IAAI
- Compare reported odometer readings against what the dashboard shows
- Confirm make, model, year, engine and plant against the seller’s paperwork
Where to find the chassis number on a UAE car
Check the base of the windscreen on the driver’s side, the driver’s door jamb sticker, and the vehicle registration card (Mulkiya). All three should show the same 17-character number. If they differ, walk away or ask for an explanation in writing.
How the check works
Enter the VIN and your email to get the free decode of manufacturer specifications. The full report adds accident and auction history, title brands, recall data and a mileage timeline. Use it together with an independent workshop inspection, not instead of one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the UAE VIN check free?
The basic VIN decode, which covers make, model, year, engine and plant, is free. The full history report with accident, auction and title data is a paid upgrade.
Where is the chassis number on my Mulkiya?
The Mulkiya (vehicle registration card) lists the chassis number. For most cars it is the same 17-character VIN stamped on the dashboard and door jamb.
Does a clean report mean the car has no problems?
No. Records only show what was reported. Always combine the report with a physical inspection by an independent workshop.
