Start with the VIN, not the photos
Listings show the best angles. The VIN shows the history. Ask the seller for the 17-character VIN and confirm it matches the plate on the dashboard, the door sticker and the paperwork before you discuss price.
What to look for in the history
Many cars sold in Ghana were previously auctioned after insurance claims in the US or Europe. A history report helps you see this before you buy.
- Salvage, rebuilt or flood title brands
- Auction photos showing front, rear or water damage
- Odometer readings that do not match the dashboard
- Open manufacturer recalls
Inspect and verify locally
Use the report to decide whether a car deserves an inspection, not to replace it. Have an independent mechanic check structure, suspension and electrics, and verify registration and duty documents with the relevant Ghanaian authorities.
